Brothers

These brothers are finally at an age where they really seem to enjoy playing together.

Watching them playing cars the other day was really fun.

Kindness

I was taking care of my grandsons the other day when I mentioned that my ankle was hurting.

I’ve done pretty well during the day lately, and usually it’s only at night when I’m in bed that it is hurting.

I might have over done it the day before, but I ended up taking some Advil to help with the inflammation.

That afternoon when I was putting the youngest down for his nap, my older grandson entered the dimly lit room with a band-aid in hand.

He had unwrapped it, and brought it to me as a gesture of kindness. His Mimi’s ankle was hurting, and the only thing he could think of to do was to bring me a band-aid.

His action definitely came from the heart, and it made my day!

Luckily by the next day the band-aid had done its job, and my ankle wasn’t hurting quite so bad.

I sure love that little boy!

Notes

I love the notes feature on my i pad and phone. It’s such a handy way to record things I want to remember.

I thought I might share with you some of my entries:

“Is the Lord’s arm too short?”
Numbers 11:23

Bobby’s Mayo Dressing
2 TBSP mayo
1 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp olive oil
Cracked pepper
Pinch of salt
Apply directly to the salad and mix together

How often have you gone with the majority opinion simply because it was easier than carefully thinking through the issue?

“Mimi let me pick it up for you. It might be too heavy for you.
( Youngest grandson about a small rock in the driveway.)

“It’s better to follow your own path, however imperfectly, than to follow someone else’s perfectly.”
Bhagavad-Gita

We learn from our mistakes, but we can learn from our success also.

Stop admiring your problems and do something.

Enhanced immune reaction- priming the immune system

My only problem now is organizing them some way. I wonder if there is a folder feature in notes?

Cow Woke Up Too

While babysitting my grandsons today, the youngest one went down for his nap.
Meanwhile the older one and I did a little homeschooling. While we were busy counting 100 M&Ms Cooper began to bark, which in turn made Ellie join in as well.

It wasn’t but just a moment that I heard the younger one calling out my name. He had only been down for his nap for a little over an hour, and I knew he had a party to attend later that night, and needed a little longer nap.

When I went in to check on him, and hopefully convince him to go back to sleep I told him how sorry I was that Cooper had woken him up.

His reply cracked me up, “Yah and he woke cow up too!”

Cow is one of several stuffed animals that he sleeps with, and apparently Cow wasn’t too happy either that his nap had been interrupted.

I offered to lay down with both of them in hopes that they might fall back asleep. They got about fifteen more minutes of sleep, but luckily the youngest woke up in a good mood ready to take on the afternoon.

Easter Blessings

We enjoyed a wonderful day yesterday with Brittany, Will and the boys.

Chuck and I were up early to attend our church’s sunrise service. This is the first time I’ve attended an early morning outside Easter service, and it was very nice.

When we arrived back home I whipped together a delicious breakfast of bacon, scrambled eggs and Ezekiel toast. I’m using a new technique on my eggs, and they turn out light and fluffy every time. I always like to add some grated Parmesan as well.

We hit the road a little before nine and drove first to Weatherford where we met up with Chuck’s Uncle Ted. Chuck’s Aunt Loree had something for the boys, Brittany and I, and we arranged to meet up in the Olive Garden parking lot.

It was great getting to visit with Ted again since it had been about a year since we had seen him in person. Right before the pandemic began we had met both his aunt and uncle at Panera’s, and hadn’t seen them since.

We then headed to Brittany and Will’s where we were met by two very excited boys dressed in super cute Under Armor polo shirts in bright Easter colors.

The boys were excited to receive chocolate bunnies, honey, and books from Mimi and Papa, and a bunny shaped container full of M&Ms.

We ate a delicious lunch of ribs grilled by Will, corn casserole (my favorite), slaw, and Rudy’s potato salad, followed by yummy banana pudding. (Magnolia Table recipe)

The boys dyed eggs after the little one woke up from his nap. Who am I kidding? He was joined by Chuck, Will, and Brittany. That 5:30 wake-up call had taken its toll.

I spent time reading some of the new books to my oldest grandson. He’s beginning to learn how to read, and did a good job helping me out.

After dying the eggs Chuck and Will hid a bunch of plastic candy filled eggs in the front yard. The boys had a blast hunting them. Later the youngest refund some so Will could hunt them.
Chuck and I left around four and headed out to our property. We wanted to measure out the area for the wood stove. When we got to the house we were able to see the foam insulation for the first time. We are definitely making progress.

It’s exciting to think that sheet rock is just around the corner. Before we left Chuck planted some boxwoods we had replaced at our house. He didn’t have the heart to just throw them out, since they appeared to want to live after getting stunted by the freeze.

We headed home with a quick trip through McDonald’s for dinner since it was getting to be around dinner time and it was a two hour drive home.

Easter blessings for sure.

Blog Every Day

Seth Godin says, “Blog every day. It’s easy, it’s free, and it establishes your identity. “
That’s what I’ve been doing since January. I’m blogging Monday-Friday, although I’m not posting every day on Facebook.

When I first started blogging I had some writer’s fantasy that somehow I would end up as a popular nationwide blogger. I’m not exactly sure how I thought this was going to actually happen, but I kept thinking that my readership would go viral.

At one point it appeared I had over one hundred readers a day. I was thrilled until I learned about bots that troll the internet. Realistically if I got thirty views a day I was doing well.

Occasionally when I posted a cute grandchild post I might have fifty or sixty. I was flattered even by those numbers, and have had several people reply that they enjoy reading my blog.

The first few years of writing it seemed that I had a never ending well of ideas. I might find myself actually writing two or three posts a day.

As time went by my ideas began to wane, and I limited my postings to three a week. During 2020 I barely posted at all, and that made me sad.

At the beginning of 2021, year six of my blog, I made the commitment to once again post five days a week.

Now my blog is open to anyone who wants to read it, but if I don’t post it on Facebook I’m basically the only one reading it.

In some ways I’ve been fine with that because sometimes I really don’t have anything that I feel lends itself to being shared, and yet I know I will enjoy coming back and reading it later.
One of my favorite things to do is something like Time Hop where I go back and read what I wrote on that day each year. It really gives me a snapshot of my life.

As soon as we are out in our property I anticipate I’ll be sharing more freely my new adventure. Today is April 2nd, and I’ve faithfully posted each weekday this year.

I’m proud of myself for following through with my commitment.
