Cowtastrophy

Well this morning certainly didn’t start as I had planned. I was driving down the driveway on the way to Brittany’s when I received a phone call from here. 

Apparently the man down the way had called Will to let him know that the cows were on the country road beside our property. 

As I made my way out of the gate I noticed a neighbor making her way up the road. As it turned out she was the one who had noticed the cows, and had called her son, who in turn alerted Will. 

She informed me that my automatic gate was repeatedly opening and closing on its own. Sure enough as we stood there waiting for Will to arrive it kept opening and closing. 

Now at that time she said she had seen two mamas and two babies on the dead end side of our road. It wasn’t until Will arrived and coaxed them back in the gate with the siren on his feed truck that he realized the whole herd was missing. 

About that time I glanced down the opposite side of the road, the one that intersected with the highway that I saw some more cows. Now mind you Will had just come from that direction ten minutes before and had not seen any cows. 

Apparently when they heard the siren on the truck they came running as well. He was able to gather them back in the pasture through the other gate. 

As we thought about where they had been Will stated that they may have been in the other side of the highway. We hoped that maybe they had made their way down the neighbors driveway. 

Either way we were eternally grateful that it ended on a good note. All cows accounted for, and automatic gate disconnected for now. 

Fly Pajamas

The two older grandsons were spending the night for the first time at our new house this past weekend. 

When it was time for bed I told them that I needed to put on my pajamas. 

Now generally I wear the same pajamas any time I’m spending the night at their house so they are quite familiar with them.

As I pulled them out of the drawer the three year old remarked, “Oh, I like your fly pajamas.”

Now technically the pattern is supposed to be flowers, but after closer inspection they do look like flies. 😂

The Apple Didn’t Fall Far

Arrived today to find this big guy hard at work. 

He had happily cut three gallon size bags of grass clippings with scissors around his swing set.

 

Yep, he’s just like his Papa! LOL!

Balcony

Our new apartment is on the fourth floor so we now have a balcony. 

One of the nice things about the balcony is that it’s kind of like sitting in a treehouse. 

The view below is a beautifully landscaped courtyard. The other day I spied two cats running across the courtyard. 

Chuck and I sat out there the and drank our coffee the other morning. I think I’m going to like this little getaway. 

Decorating an Apartment on a Dime

 

I was talking with Brittany last night and after viewing our IKEA furniture haul she jokingly made the comment that it looked like we were back in college. 

She had a point, and both Chuck and I had made the same remark earlier as we snaked our way through IKEA, or as I like you call it the belly of the beast. 

Of course, there was no IKEA forty years ago that I know of, but the sentiment was still there. 

I remember my first apartment being furnished initially with bean bag chairs, a borrowed table, my old twin size bed from the bedroom at home, and a lamp given to me by my Dad.

As I prepared to set up two households I made my way to my old stomping grounds, Walmart and started purchasing on the cheap what I thought we might need in a minimalist way. 

I found a cute set of blue and white dishes for $12.00. Heck paper plates would have added up to that amount pretty quickly. 

My $10.00 silverware set sealed the deal. 

I brought a few extra utensils I had at home, but did invest in a set of knives, some new measuring cups and spoons, a colander, can opener, dish towels, and mixing bowls. 

I had an extra set of pots and pans that I brought. 

We ended up getting our bedspread from IKEA, and I bought a really pretty shower curtain at Walmart. Everything is fine in blues and grays. 

It’s actually been fun pulling it all together, and as we have been going along we are learning what else we need to function easily at the apartment. 

So far I’m really pleased, and can’t wait for Chuck to finish assembling the furniture. 

Apartment Life

 Well Sunday Chuck and I moved into our new apartment. Since Chuck will continue to work we knew he needed to be closer to his office, so we returned to our old apartment complex. 

This time, though, we got a one bedroom on the fourth floor. So far it’s been very quiet.

Sadly, I ended up sending Cooper home to Brittany since he would bark every time we would try to leave the apartment. 

Of course, he had only been here a few hours so it was all pretty new to him. I’m hoping next week to bring him up for a couple of days and just hang out here. 

I’ll try leaving him again after that. 

Today Chuck and I made a trip to IKEA to get furniture for our apartment. Right now Chuck is hard at work putting it together.

 

We are trying to keep life here very minimalistic. That and the fact that the IKEA furniture is more on the easy to move side.

 

We are excited to begin our City Mouse Country Mouse life, but I must say I’m missing my cows and beautiful view. 

Maybe tomorrow morning if the weather cooperates I can walk along my beloved Lake Carolyn, one of my favorite things about this complex.
